USE AVERIL

Asking Averil

Mention @Averil or send it a direct message to ask about your cases, your repositories and what it can see.

Where to ask

  • In a case thread: mention @Averil. The answer is about that case.
  • In any channel Averil is in: mention @Averil for a general answer.
  • In a direct message to the Averil app.

Averil adds an eyes reaction to your message while it works and removes it when it answers. If it could not answer, it leaves an x instead.

Questions to try

AskAveril looks at
"What's open right now?"Open and recent cases
"Who owns the api repo?"CODEOWNERS and team members in the context map
"Which repositories have no owner?"Repositories and their owners
"Who is on the platform team?"Team members from GitHub
"What are you connected to? What can't you see?"Connected tools, when it last read each one, and blind spots
"Why is this high severity?" (in a case thread)The case and its evidence
"Is the payments key one of them?" (in a case thread)The case and its evidence

What it can look up

When you are a known, active member of the workspace (not a guest), Averil can use four read-only lookups: list repositories, teams or people; look up one of them; list open or recent cases; and say what it is connected to. It makes at most four lookups per answer. If a lookup fails, the answer says what it could not check.

Guests get general answers only, without company data.

What it will not do

  • Change anything. Asking Averil to fix something leads to a plan that a person approves, like every other change.
  • Take your message as an instruction to widen what it can see. Your workspace comes from Slack's verified routing, not from what you type.
  • Repeat secrets. Questions are redacted before they reach a model.
Coming soonSearching your event history and past findings from a question is next. Today, ask about cases, owners and connections.
